Tank tops, as a general term, are probably my most common sewn item. Both Virginia and I love wearing them. They’re easy for all weather, especially as a layering piece. So we can be work/event appropriate as needed, then lose some layers to get into sweltering cars or walk through that palpable humidity. Also, we are both about 5’8″ and blessed in the chest. All of this means tanks tend to be closer to a crop top than either of us prefer. This means making them is one of my favorite things because RTW tanks tend to be too short. Plus, they use such a small amount of fabric!
This means I’m always looking for fun, unique tanks to add to our closets! Oh boy is this a fun one!! It has a built in shelf, which is super easy to adjust for bust sizes if you need it. This constructions gives a really beautiful, clean finish to the front, which I completely love! There is extra elastic to help keep the shape and support. Plus, you have a couple options for height on the front, strap placement, and bottom finishes! I love options.
Overall, I’m pretty jealous of Virginia’s new tank and I’ll definitely need to make one for myself. We used this absolutely gorgeous blue double brushed poly from Sly Fox Fabrics and it is a stunning color. The DBP was super easy to work with and makes such lovely binding and straps, every dang time! Paired with some RTW shorts, I think she looks ready for just about any situation.
The entire ensemble was just perfect for wandering around Jekyll Island and looking good doing it! We had some overcast skies and drizzles throughout the day, then a complete downpour, but that came later. For our quick wade in the surf and exploration of the dunes (we found a protected turtle nest!!!), she was comfortable, cool, and looked damn good.
Basically, this is a wonderful edition to her closet, I’m going to steal it soon. Don’t tell. Grab your copy of the Lakeshore Tank and sew up ALL THE TANKS. Before summer ends.
